Cross-Border Rental — Frequently Asked Questions
Can I drive a rental car from North Macedonia to Kosovo?
Yes. Kosovo is in Green Card Zone 1 (€50/rental). The Blace crossing north of Skopje is about 20 minutes from the city; Pristina is 1 h 30 away. If you also plan to enter Serbia, enter Serbia first or via a third country — a Kosovo entry stamp without a Serbian entry stamp can get you refused at the Serbian border.
Can I drive the car into Greece?
Yes — Greece is Zone 1. The Bogorodica–Evzoni crossing on the A1/E75 is the main route; Thessaloniki is about 3 hours from Skopje. Greek motorways charge tolls by section. We can also hand the car over at Thessaloniki Airport for €220 per leg.
Can I take the car to Albania?
Yes — Albania is Zone 1. The usual way in is Qafë Thanë near Struga (for Tirana) or Sveti Naum near Ohrid (for Pogradec and the south). Albanian roads are good on the main corridors; fuel is sold in both leva and euros at many stations near the border.
How much does the Green Card cost and what does it cover?
Zone 1 (€50/rental) covers Kosovo, Albania, Serbia, Greece and Bulgaria; Zone 2 (€80/rental) adds Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro and Croatia. It is the international motor-insurance certificate that makes the car's third-party liability valid abroad; without it you would be uninsured at the first checkpoint.
Which countries are not allowed?
Anything outside the two Green Card zones — tell us if you need another country and we will say yes or no before you book. Ferries to Italy and trips beyond the Balkans are not covered.
Is one-way rental possible, for example Skopje to Pristina or Thessaloniki airport?
Within our network, yes: pick up in Skopje and return at Pristina Airport (€50 per leg) or Thessaloniki Airport (€220 per leg), or the other way round. Each leg carries that location's fee, shown in the quote. We do not offer one-way returns to other cities abroad.
Do I need an International Driving Permit for the neighbouring countries?
A licence in Latin script (EU, UK, US, Canada, Australia and most others) is accepted across the region; an International Driving Permit is recommended if your licence is in another script. Carry your passport — Kosovo, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia are outside the EU and stamp it.
Does the deposit change for cross-border trips?
No. Yes — our rental terms require a €100 deposit at pickup. The only addition for a cross-border trip is the Green Card for your zone.
