Planning an extended stay in North Macedonia — whether for work, a long holiday, or a cross-Balkan road trip — a weekly or longer-term rental is almost always the better financial decision. Here is what you need to know about long-term car rental pricing, options, and how to make the most of an extended rental.
Why Long-Term Rental Makes Sense
A single low-season day costs €50 for a Mini Class car, but multi-day bookings drop fast through the pricing calendar's duration tiers: a 7-day booking prices at €25/day (€175 total) and a 14-day booking at €23/day (€322 total). Flat weekly packages are also available from €230 (Toyota Aygo or Peugeot 108); the popular Hyundai i10 Automatic package is €280. Extended stays also benefit from:
- Flexibility — use the car whenever you need it, not just for planned excursions
- Convenience — no daily taxi or rideshare costs
- Discovery — spontaneous side trips to villages, monasteries, and viewpoints that buses and tours never reach
- Cost predictability — one fixed price for the rental period

Two-Week and Monthly Rentals
For stays of 14 days or more, contact us directly for a custom quote. Monthly rates (28-30 days) typically offer a further discount versus two consecutive weekly bookings. Popular scenarios for longer rentals include:
- Remote workers based in Skopje or Ohrid for a month
- Retirees spending the summer at Lake Ohrid
- Researchers or academics studying at universities in Skopje
- Business contractors on project-based assignments
Monthly rental for an economy car typically runs €900–1,100/month depending on availability and season. Contact us at least one week in advance for monthly rental arrangements.
What Is Included in Every Long-Term Rental
All long-term rentals include the same base features as daily rentals:
- Unlimited mileage — no per-kilometre charges
- Third-party liability insurance — mandatory coverage
- 24/7 roadside assistance — we answer the phone
- no hidden cost for online bookings (credit card authorisation may apply for monthly rentals)
- Airport delivery — we bring the car to Skopje Airport (SKP) or Ohrid Airport (OHD)
- City delivery — available within Skopje at no extra charge
Optional Extras

Best Vehicle for Long-Term Rental
Economy: Hyundai i10 Automatic (€280/week)
The most popular choice for solo travelers and couples. Excellent fuel economy (5-6 litres/100 km), automatic gearbox, and easy to park in Ohrid's narrow old town streets or Skopje's city centre. At €280/week it is one of the best-value automatics in the fleet (manual Mini Class packages start at €230).
Mid-Range: Volkswagen Polo or Peugeot 301 (€310–330/week)
More interior space and comfort for longer journeys. The Polo is particularly suited to highway driving (Skopje–Ohrid corridor) and has a larger boot for luggage. Choose this for stays combining city exploration with road trips.
Family/Group: Peugeot Rifter (€350–430/week)
7-seat vans are the top choice for families or groups of 5–7 traveling together. The Peugeot Rifter has a sliding rear door and genuine luggage capacity — ideal for a family spending two or more weeks at Lake Ohrid. At €61/day equivalent for 7 people, this is exceptional value.
Adventure/Mountain: Dacia Duster 4x4 (€500/week)
If your extended stay includes mountain villages, ski resorts (Popova Šapka, Mavrovo), or late-season driving, the Duster's 4-wheel drive is worth the premium. Roads to Galičica National Park, Berovo, and Brajčino can be challenging — the Duster handles them confidently.
Seasonal Availability for Long-Term Rentals
Availability for weekly and monthly rentals is not guaranteed — especially during peak season (July–August) when 7-seat vehicles book out weeks in advance.
| Period | Availability | Advance Booking Needed |
|---|---|---|
| July–August | Tight | 3–4 weeks ahead |
| June, September | Good | 1–2 weeks ahead |
| May, October | Excellent | 3–5 days ahead |
| November–April | Excellent | Next-day available |
For summer stays, book as early as possible. For winter or shoulder season extended stays, same-week bookings are usually possible.
Long-Term Rental vs. Car Sharing / Taxis
For stays longer than 5 days, a rental almost always wins on cost:
| Option | 14-Day Cost (typical) | Flexibility |
|---|---|---|
| Economy car weekly × 2 | €560 | Maximum |
| Taxi to major sites (estimate) | €400–600 | Low |
| Rideshare (Bolt/Uber) | €350–500 | Medium |
| Organised tours | €600–1,000 | Minimal |
The key difference is flexibility — with a rental car, Lake Matka Canyon, Kokino Observatory, and Tikveš wine region are spontaneous decisions rather than booked excursions.
Practical Tips for Extended Rentals
1. Fuel economy matters more on long rentals Diesel vehicles (Dacia Duster) and small automatics (i10) significantly reduce fuel costs over two or more weeks. At €1.30/litre for petrol, a thirsty car adds up. See our petrol stations guide for fuel cost estimates by route.
2. Familiarise yourself with parking zones early Skopje has a blue-zone paid parking system in the centre. If you are staying long-term, identify your hotel's parking situation on day one. Our parking guide for Skopje covers all zones, payment methods, and free options.
3. Plan cross-border trips in advance If your extended stay includes a day trip to Thessaloniki, a visit to Kosovo, or a detour through Albania, inform us when booking. Green Card documentation takes 24–48 hours to arrange. Last-minute requests are accommodated when possible but not guaranteed.
4. Report any minor issues early For two-week or longer rentals, report any warning lights, minor damage (pre-existing or new), or mechanical concerns to us immediately. Small issues left unattended can become large problems. Our 24/7 roadside assistance number is in your rental agreement.
5. Keep a fuel log for business rentals If you are renting for business purposes and need to claim fuel costs, keep receipts from petrol stations. We can provide a vehicle expenses summary on request.

- Flexible pickup and return to match business schedules
North Macedonia's improving business environment, lower cost base, and central Balkan location make it an increasingly attractive base for regional operations. A reliable long-term vehicle makes work travel around the country practical.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum rental period to get the weekly rate? The weekly rate applies to rentals of 7 full days (168 hours from pickup time). Rentals of 8–13 days are calculated as one weekly rate plus daily rates for the additional days. This is more economical than paying daily rates for all 8–13 days.
Can I extend my rental while already in North Macedonia? Yes — call or WhatsApp us and we will extend the rental if the vehicle is available. Extensions are not always possible during peak season if the car is booked by another client immediately after your return date. We recommend booking the full duration upfront.
Is there a deposit for long-term rentals? A refundable €100 deposit applies per our rental terms — for daily and monthly rentals alike. It is paid at pickup together with the rental (cash or card; we take no online prepayment) and returned at drop-off. There is no larger credit-card block on top.
Can I change the return location for a weekly rental? Only to one of our six service locations (Skopje Airport, Skopje City Centre, Ohrid Airport, Ohrid City Centre, Prishtina Airport, Thessaloniki Airport) — a per-leg fee applies, shown before you confirm the booking (e.g. Skopje Airport to Ohrid is €110 total). Outside those six, the car is returned to the same location it was picked up from. Unlimited mileage means you can still drive anywhere in between, including between Skopje and Ohrid, on a standard round trip at no extra fee.
What if I need the car for 10 days — how is that priced? Our pricing calendar has a per-day rate for every duration from 1 to 31 days (D1 through D31 columns). The 10-day rate is typically significantly lower per day than the 1-day rate. Enter your exact dates in the booking form to see the total.
Ready for a long-term rental? Browse our fleet or go straight to the booking form — the calendar will show you the exact per-day rate for your duration.
